Restoration & Innovation

Suke Quto Farm, located in Ethiopia’s Guji region, is a pioneering coffee farm founded by Tesfaye Bekele. Initially distancing himself from coffee farming, Tesfaye returned after witnessing the devastation of bushfires in the late 1990s. Determined to restore the land and create sustainable livelihoods, he introduced coffee farming as an alternative crop, distributing seedlings and eventually establishing Suke Quto Farm. His dedication to reforestation and coffee cultivation revitalized the region, inspiring a wave of coffee farming across Guji.

The farm operates a washing and drying station, producing both washed and natural coffees. Washed coffees undergo a careful fermentation process before drying, while natural coffees dry slowly on elevated beds for 9 to 15 days, developing complex flavors. Suke Quto also prioritizes environmentally friendly practices, including organic recycling and wastewater management, resulting in Organic and Rainforest Alliance-certified coffees known for their exceptional quality.

Community & Sustainability

Beyond coffee production, Tesfaye is committed to community development and sustainability. He collaborates with 171 outgrowers, providing resources and training to ensure high-quality cherry production. His projects include infrastructure improvements, such as building a new school in the neighboring village of Kurume. Partnering with Trabocca, a global coffee distributor, Suke Quto has gained international recognition, with support for organic certification and quality control. Through his innovative approach, Tesfaye has transformed Suke Quto into a model farm, proving that coffee can drive both economic growth and environmental preservation.

How fresh is your coffee?

Our coffee is roasted fresh to order and ships within 24 hours to ensure peak flavor. For optimal taste, we recommend brewing between 4 and 21 days after the roast date—this allows the coffee to degas and fully develop. After that window, it will still taste great for several weeks (or more), especially if stored in a cool, airtight container.
