Living Wages & Sustainability: Our 2023 Impact Report and The Future Of Stone Creek Coffee

Here’s a little preview of the kind of information you’ll find in our Impact report…

As a certified B Corporation, we believe that for-profit business should seek to create positive impact in the world. Given our unique business model our focused impact areas include: Wages & Benefits for our Employees, and Sustainability in the Coffee Supply Chain.

Over the last two years, we’ve been tracking our wages related to MIT’s Living Wage Calculator. We’ve been using their benchmarks for the Milwaukee metro area as an unbiased tool when assessing our wage levels. At the end of 2022, 91% of our full-time employees were paid a living wage according to this calculator. At the end of 2023, the Living Wage figure was $16.10 for an individual, and we had improved the percentage of employees above this mark to 96%.

Over the last 6 months, we’ve gone through some deeper learning along with the B Corporation community, as there are many factors that play into a “Living Wage.” B Labs, the organization that sets standards for B Corporations and conducts the certifications, is moving toward a system that includes an analysis of the individual employee’s needs and the benefit programs offered by each company. We conducted an audit of our wages, benefits, employee needs, and local factors to create a better understanding of what our wage targets need to be on a go-forward basis.

We are using that learning to help us plan for the future. We now have a more holistic understanding of how we need to evolve year over year as we seek to create a business that is totally sustainable for all of the parties along the #FarmToCup supply chain.
